I had a Youtube Channel for a bit of time. I loved making videos for my friends and who ever watched them. It was easy, get a camera or phone, shoot a video, edit on iMovie, and upload. No hassle, no worry. As I kept making videos for my own entertainment or for high school projects, I kept get copyright strikes again and again and again. I just could not stay out of Youtube's striking zone.
For a while, I was able to play music behind videos and have no problem, but now, music companies will come for you even if you hum the song, according to GlamLifeGuru or Tati Westbrook on Youtube.
I had a video that played the first 5 seconds of a song for a sound affect, and I got striked. I just do not understand how the music industry can detect the such small portions of music. I was not even using my videos for profit, most videos were private, but still I could not get them to stay up for very long.
Does the music industry really care that much? Are they really not getting that much money from creators on YouTube? Or are they just that money hungry?

This article is interesting, and talks about how some artists could get a big check from Youtube. The article says that For years the music industry has argued that "YouTube exploits the lack of legal protection around music videos being viewed on its service to pay minimal amounts to artists and labels when they are viewed. The music industry has lobbied that this “value gap” between the true worth of the music videos and what YouTube decides to pay needs to be addressed with legislation."
I guess I understand that people re post music videos and just let them sit there and rack views, and I definetly have used Youtube rather than buy songs and albums, but it just seems like the music industry gets enough money as is, why not let people make lyric videos and remixes of the songs they like.
Remix and DJs are popular right now, but unless you are a Youtube Partner, you can not make any money off of your work because copyright. So how can a DJ make a start now? You have to put your remix somewhere else, but what other site gets the same traffic and is not being hunted down by the music corps?
Even those who make song covers are getting striked down if their versions are too similar to the actual song. And even if you make your own music, you won't make that much money. Artist have complained that orginal, music will not even make money on sites like Pandora and Youtube.
So unless you can get in kahoots with the music industry or have the funds to pay your way out of lawsuits, good luck uploading music content to Youtube.
